The Illustrator technique used in this video tutorial should be one that every freelance graphic designer knows how to use. Below is the video tutorial of a digital artist showing us how to create a vector 3D box.
This is a great Illustrator technique because it utilizes the “3D Extrude & Bevel” effect as well as the “Map Art” option.
Frankly, I see very few freelance graphic designers or beginners choosing to use the “3D Extrude & Bevel” effect, simply because they feel it is to complicated. This tutorial will hopefully release your fears by answering your questions and giving you something to practice on.
This Illustrator technique video tutorial also goes over an option within the “3D Extrude & Bevel” effect called “Map Art”. Mapping art or placing an image or logo onto a vector 3D object is very simply done through the “Map Art” option. If you are currently unfamiliar with this option I would strongly suggest you practicing this video tutorial.
This Illustrator technique also covers some basic design principles which include:
- Creating a simple 3D like background.
- Creating easy drop shadows.
- Creating a mirror like reflection.
- Creating an inner glow.
- How to add depth through the use of gradients.
Think of all the Illustrator techniques that you come across as small bread crumbs, which will lead you to your desired outcome more successfully.
The more Illustrator techniques you come across and practice, the better and more efficient you become. These techniques are meant to educate and inspire you to become better at your craft.
